A 25-year-old Nottingham man has been officially jailed after a court heard horrifying details of how he subjected two helpless dogs to extreme neglect and severe violence, resulting in the tragic deaths of both animals.

During the trial at Nottingham Crown Court, prosecutors laid out a chilling timeline of events. The court heard that the defendant left an XL Bully dog named Cardy to suffer and die alone inside his flat after completely failing to provide basic human care. The animal was later discovered by authorities in a bathtub in a severely decomposed state, having not been seen in public for several months.

Medical assessments indicated that the poor animal likely endured weeks of severe dehydration, extreme weakness, and gradual organ failure before finally succumbing to death. Due to the advanced state of decomposition when police found the body, a precise medical cause of death could not be legally confirmed, but the severe neglect was undeniable.

A Second Fatal Attack

In a separate and equally shocking incident, the man’s cruelty escalated. While staying at a different property, the defendant launched a brutal attack on a British Bulldog named Ralph.

The defense claimed that the dog had tragically “fallen down the stairs.” However, medical examiners quickly debunked the story. The bulldog had suffered a fractured skull caused by severe blunt force trauma and died shortly after the assault. Prosecutors described the injuries as entirely inconsistent with an accident, proving the attack was deliberate and violent.

The Court Sentence and Public Outrage

Judge Mark Watson sentenced the defendant to 20 months in prison, stating firmly that the first dog had endured prolonged, unimaginable suffering and that the second animal had been willfully killed through a violent assault.

In addition to the prison sentence, the judge imposed a strict 10-year ban on keeping any animals.

The local police department stated that the horrific case only came to light after concerned citizens raised the alarm, prompting officers to enter the flat and uncover the tragic scene.
